HOW TO INSTALL A THEME?

After successfully installing WordPress, you can now customize and change the look and feel of your
website. This will be done by changing basic settings, making use of theme templates as well as using
required plugins.

Within the WordPress dashboard, locate the appearance tab.

Click on themes and then “Add New” theme.

Note: This way you can add free themes within WordPress or install premium themes bought from external source or downloaded from the official wordpress.org website.

For purposes of this exercise, we’ll use the “Astra” theme.

Hover your mouse over the Astra theme and click install.

After installation is complete, go ahead and click “Activate”. A “New theme activated” message will display at the top.

Once Astra is activated, select “Astra options” under the appearance tab. At the top of the page, a “Thank you for installing Astra” message will display.

Click on “Get Started”

Add new template theme.

Choose a starter template of choice.

Choose a Page Builder of
your choice.

Basically a page builder is a WordPress plugin that gives you the power to customize, design and structure your WordPress pages by simply dragging and dropping elements such as:
Headers, images, icons, call to actions, etc into sections or containers of your choice in a WP page.

After choosing a page builder, you now have an option to select the desired starter template

For purposes of this exercise, we have chosen the “Charity” template which falls under the community category of templates

Once you select a template, you have the option to preview all the pages within the template.

If this template suites your needs, click on “Import Complete Site” button.

Your selected website and demo data is now being imported to your domain.

This may take a few minutes depending on your internet connectivity.

DO NOT CLOSE THE BROWSER UNTIL IMPORT HAS COMPLETED!!

• Once the import is completed, a “Imported Successfully” message will pop up.

Click on “View Site” to get a preview of your import.

A preview of your site under your own domain should be identical to the theme template.

This is how our new site looks with all the demo data.

At this stage you have now successfully installed a WordPress theme and successfully imported all
the demo data of your chosen template. Well done! You now have a functional website, however we
still need to customize the imported demo content to suit our needs. We will do this in the next
section.
